Update on planning the new store on Bowdoin St
First Look at Architect Sketches
We are looking for legal, business plan writing and
fundraising support.–let us know if you can help
Thanks to everyone who joined the Dorchester Community Food Coop in October in honor of Co-op Month! We surpassed our goal, and currently have 309 household member-owners! This is great news as we approach funders for building our new store on Bowdoin St. Of course–we still need to keep building our membership, and our next goal is to hit 400 members by the beginning of the Winter Farmers Market in January! Help us spread the word, and forward this email to a friend or neighbor who may be interested in joining. You are our best ambassadors! Looking for a great holiday gift for a Dorchester friend or relative? Give a membership to the Dorchester Community Food Co-op–the gift that keeps on giving! To join–go to our website and make a full or installment payment on the $100 equity share. If you have paid an installment payment in the past year–now would be an excellent time to make your next payment. You can do that on the same “Join Now” page. Click HERE
Outreach Committee begins monthly meetings
Our outreach committee has begun meeting on the first Monday of the month. Next meeting: Monday December 2, 7pm at the Eastern Bank Community Room at Ashmont Station Please contact Lynn Murray (firstname.lastname@example.org),our outreach and education coordinator, for information. All are welcome to join this committee and join in this important work!
Building our membership and beginning our Major Fundraising Campaign is only a part of our current momentum. Recent activities are:
- We are currently meeting with architects to plan and design the new building on Bowdoin Street that will house the co-op. We will be bringing early sketches to our general meeting on December 12
- Our Fresh Fridays series on the site of the new Co-op was very successful with more than 500 people attending—many new to our co-op project.
- The third season of the Dorchester Winter Farmers’ Market will open on Sunday January 5 at 12 noon at the Codman Square Health Center.
- We celebrated Food Day on October 24 in partnership with the Bowdoin St. Health Center by showing “A Place at the Table”, an excellent documentary on hunger in America.
Thanks for your ongoing help in building the food co-op!
