Thank you so much to everyone who came out to help celebrate the hub launch last Saturday! We had such a great time and thoroughly enjoyed experiencing the site in action for the first time alongside all of you.

People from all across Dorchester came out on Saturday, bringing family and friends, and had a chance to see the site and get a feel for what it will be offering now that it’s up and running. Everyone got a chance to meet organizers from the co-op, Sustainability Guild,Dorchester Bay EDC, and other neighborhood organizations involved in and supporting the site and the future co-op. We also got to enjoy a performance by a local teen string ensemble, which blew the crowd away. Between these activities, the food, and getting a chance to mingle with friends and neighbors, the day was a great time for everyone.

If you weren’t able to make it, we hope you still find a chance to check it out sometime soon. The site is open to the public now and featured tables and chairs that are perfect for picnicking or catching up with friends and a book sharing library from which you canborrow any number of books for your summer reading. There are also many raised bed gardens with numerous vegetables growing which are always great to look at and learn about. Programming will being shortly, with classes and workshops offered throughout the summer, so check back to find listings and schedules soon!

We are also thrilled to announce the return of Fresh Fridays, which will take place at the same site. Starting next week, each Friday through August will be a themed food party at the co-op site at the corner of Topliff and Bowdoin Street. Beginning at 6 PM, there will be food, live entertainment, and children’s activities for the neighborhood. The event is free for everyone to attend, though there is a suggested $5 donation. Some nights the food will be donated by neighborhood eating establishments, some nights it will be potluck style dining with food people bring from their own kitchens, but each week will be a fun and unique chance to experience new, healthy food and a neighborhood gathering.

The first Fresh Friday is Friday, July 26th and it is going to be a community potluck barbeque. So join us at 6 PM– bring a dish of food (optional) and mingle with your neighbors for a free night of food and entertainment.
