We had a great turnout at our April 1 Pot Luck Dinner and Membership Kickoff at the First Parish Church on Meetinghouse Hill. More than 75 people attended and engaged in lively discussion over dinner about what they would like the co-op to do for their families and for the community. After dinner, students from the Boston Architectural College presented their sketches for what the food co-op could look like in a sample Dorchester neighborhood. At the end of the evening, more than 20 households joined the co-op, and many signed up for volunteer opportunities. See great photos of the event on our Facebook Page
We are now entering into our full fledged Membership Drive. Signing up members now is critical for the future success of the Co-op. We need to show potential funders and lenders the strength of community interest and commitment to the project. Click here to download a copy of the Food Coop Membership Brochure and Member Application. Contact us to get printed copies of the brochure to share with friends and neighbors. Every household is eligible to buy one equity share, and the $100 payment can be made in full or in installments over time. Our goal is to sign up 100 members by June 1. We are 25% of the way there–help us reach our goal and send in your membership application with a check to PO Box 240231, Dorchester, MA 02124. Questions about membership–don’t hesitate to call.
We just received a grant from the Boston Public Health Commission to run a pilot Community Supported Cafe next summer in the Meetinghouse Hill / Bowdoin St. neighborhood. The “cafe” will be a series of Friday evening affordable healthy meals with cooking “shows” featuring members of our community demonstrating their culinary talents and highlighting the cultural food of Dorchester. There will also be light entertainment for adults and children. More to come on this as the plans progress!
